The 1996 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is an outstanding wine for what can be a tricky vintage. Dark berry fruit, sea spray and light seaweed scents burst from the glass, well-defined and eager to please. The palate is very well-balanced and typical 1996 insofar that there is a palpable marine element, racy acidity and wonderful purity. It reminds me of Rousseau from this era, very long and persistent on the finish. Wonderful. Tasted at the Les Amoureuses vertical at Hide restaurant.

Chambolle-Musigny

Chambolle-Musigny, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is renowned for its elegant, aromatic Pinot Noir wines. Known for their finesse and complex aromas of red berries, violets, and earth, these wines are often described as the most "feminine" of Burgundy. The appellation's two Grand Cru vineyards, Bonnes Mares and Musigny, produce highly sought-after wines with depth and ageing potential. Notable producers include Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Domaine Georges Roumier, and Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, all celebrated for their refined winemaking.
